HAIR SALON:

A CASE STUDY

AIM: Create a responsive hair salon design with a seamless user experience. This includes making or canceling an appointment, highlighting the stylist’s work, and creating an inclusive environment where anyone would want to go to this salon. Also, make a mobile app where hassle-free appointments can be made.

Individuals were asked various questions a sample of which is noted below.

Research

Field research was conducted in front of various hair salons to better understand what patrons wanted.

Men

Preferred a walk-in or appointment online option.

Preferred an established salon where they went.

Some preferred the same stylist, while others were more concerned about getting hair cut quickly.

Women

Preferred an established salon where they went.

They already had a stylist they go to every time.

Scheduled appointments when they finished their haircut/style.

If they didn’t schedule ahead of time they did call to schedule an appointment.

Few were scheduled online, especially if an event or important holiday was approaching.

Competative Analysis

In order to understand users’ needs, I compared published websites from salons.

The most salient information each site conveyed to the user was:

  1. Approximate cost of services

  2. Stylist Bios & Styles

  3. Appointment Availability
